Every assessment starts with a short conversation.

  1. We talk

First, a short chat to check an assessment is the right next step for you. There is no obligation to book.

  2. Before the assessment

I send you a few short forms to fill in, and ask your school or college for some background too. If you have not had an eye test in the last two years, please book one.

  3. The assessment

We meet face to face somewhere that suits you, or online. It usually takes about three hours, with breaks.

  4. Your report

My report sets out strengths, difficulties and practical recommendations, and follows SASC guidelines. Then we can go through it together.

Call me, or send a message and I’ll get back to you.

What is dyslexia?

“Dyslexia is a set of processing difficulties that affect the acquisition of reading and spelling.”

Read the full definition

Bright, able people can be dyslexic.

It has nothing to do with intelligence, effort or how a child has been taught.

It varies from person to person.

Difficulties range from mild to severe, so two dyslexic children can look quite different.

Other difficulties are common.

Dyslexia often co-occurs with ADHD, dyspraxia (DCD) or difficulties with maths. Where it would help, I can refer you on to other specialists.

I was a teacher first.

I spent more than twenty years as a teacher, SENCo and specialist advisor, ten of them in a local authority autism team. In 2019 I set up SEND Consultancy.

  • AMBDA qualified, with a current Assessment Practising Certificate held with the British Dyslexia Association.
  • Enhanced DBS checked, registered with the ICO and fully insured.
  • A member of the BDA, the Dyslexia Guild and PATOSS.
  • An independent assessor for the Helen Arkell Dyslexia Charity (opens in a new tab) since 2021.
